Intro
We read in the book of Judges the account of how Joshua dies and the Israelites have to rely on a leader emerging from among them from time to time. These leaders are known as Judges and this period is known as the period of the Judges.
We see how, during this period, there is a cycle of desperation that leads to the people calling upon God for deliverance. a leader is then raised up who leads them against their enemies into a period of peace. During the time of peace they again fall away from devotion to the one true God and end up in sin, and idolatry, which brings them once more to desperation and praying for deliverance.
Christians have read this account of the cycle of behaviour in Judges and, as in a mirror, they have seen their own lives and fickle behaviour. do you see yours?
In the opening chapters of the book of Judges we read of Othniel who won a peace that lasted 40 years. Then (3:12) the More >

Intro
A question : Did it really happen? I believe it did because the bible tells me so. Like the old children’s song: Jesus loves me this I know for the bible tells me so.
I know the bible is reliable, never having suffered a defeat by its attackers over the years. If you come across something that refutes the bible, just wait a while and it will eventually be seen to have been a hollow claim.
Archaeology supports this story and some of the unusual details. We come to that later.
Archaeology
Archaeology cannot prove that God knocked down the walls of Jericho. But archaeology can tell us whether the events reported in our ancient documents could have happened.
There have been three major excavations of the site worth commenting on.
1 By the British archaeologist John Garstang (1930–1936).
2 By the British archaeologist Kathleen Kenyon (1952–1958).
3 By the Palestinian team In the spring of 1997. The actual excavation was by two Italian archaeologists who conducted a limited excavation on the ancient tell of More >
