Baptisms with Kings Church York

We were determined to organise a baptism even though it was only for one. First there was George, then Joanne, then that very morning Carl. Then Kings Church joined in as they had someone wanting to obey Jesus in this way.

Thanks again to Priory Street Baptist Church kindly allowed us to use their building in the afternoon between their meetings.

Friends and family came along to support.

Congratulation to those baptised.

Saji and Sujoy brought baby Jonathan Elim to be dedicated to the Lord on Sunday morning 1st July ’07.

Congratulations James and Vicky!

We said a collective congratulations to James and Vicky Barton last Sunday. At 7.42am that morning Vicky gave birth to little Matthew Thomas Barton. At 8lb 4oz James said his wife “made it look easy”.

Baptismal Certificates

Following the Historic Easter Baptism in York we presented certificates to some of our people on Sunday.

This is the first time that our church has issued Baptism Certificates signed by the Archbishop of York. This an indication of our constant drive for more unity among churches, something we value at York Elim.

Fancy a working holiday this summer?

Do you come to our church or could get a reference from a church we know? Then why not come and be part of one of the teams that make Elim Youth Camp happen!

Do you have a gift or talent that could bless others? Jobs include catering, sports officer, youth/children’s teams, musicians, putting up tents etc.

The camp runs from Sat 28th July to Sat 11th August, you can come for one week or two, the cost is £50 which includes 3 good meals a day, we can also provide you with accommodation if needed. The camp takes place at Fraisthorpe Sands near Bridlington on the East Yorkshire coast (about 1hr travel time from York). We may be able to help with transport.

Or perhaps you’d like to help with setting up the camp (from Fri 20th July onwards), or taking everything down on the final day (Sat 11th August). If you’d like to know more please contact us or visit www.fraithorpecamp.com

Abi’s News From Nigeria

Hello everyone! In case you’ve forgotten me, my name’s Abi and I was at Elim church, York while at University (2003-2006). Since graduating last summer, I spent 8 months at home searching for work and trying every day to trust that God would provide something amazing…He is so faithful!

Three weeks ago, I flew out to Nigeria where I will be based for the next year working as PA/secretary to a Nigerian King! I am living in the grounds of the Palace and so far, things are going very well – apart from an escaped ostrich on my doorstep every now and then!! I have settled in here and am slowly learning the job – I say slowly as there’s a lot of sitting around and waiting for things to do, so it can be boring at times. But I’m not complaining as it’s a great adventure and I’m learning so much already, even in 3 weeks! It’s a little overwhelming to consider how much I’ll learn in a year! So here I am and I’m ready and desiring for God to use me however He chooses. He’s brought me here for His purpose and I really hope I’ll be a More >

News from Matthew Chng

Matthew and I have been in touch recently as he is the one working to renew our site. He said I can report some of his news.

He sounds as if he has settled into church life back in Singapore. He tells me that he’s been really busy at work programming websites for some big multi-national companies. He says it’s been wonderful at work and even though there’s a lot of work he is enjoying myself.

At church Matthew is leading a small group of teenage boys in a course in growing as a Christian.

Historic Baptisms in York City Centre

Easter Sunday 2007 was an historic day in the centre of York.

The churches of York had completed 40 days of prayer and many came together for a celebration in the city centre. At the same time the ‘red carpet treatment’ was given to the general public. We invited people to walk on strips of red carpet and gave them a card explaining the simple truth of the gospel that God thought they were so special that Jesus made a way for them to walk to Him through His blood. From 12.30pm there was music and singing in St Sampson’s Square with the band from York City Church. There was face painting going on and an information desk. The stage had a huge banner behind it carrying the One Voice logo and web address. The PA was particularly good and everyone in the area could hear what was going on. Word had got around that Baptisms were going to be conducted, as people had travelled from towns all over Yorkshire, even from surrounding counties and at least one family came up for the day from London!

Archbishop John Sentamu agreed to baptise candidates from all the churches along with their own leader. More >
