Special Moment of City Centre Prayer. Come!

On Saturday 7th July 2007 (the 7th of the 7th of the 7th) Churches Together and One Voice have decided to come together to pray. They consider it a pivotal moment in time, and a good opportunity to pray because:

- It is now 3 years since On Voice received Lydia’s prophecy

- It will be the second anniversary of the London bombings

- It is a festival day in the city of York

- it is one of those calendar moments that seems significant.

Having decided to pray we were overwhelmed by the Lord Mayor’s invitation to pray in the Guildhall.

We will therefore be meeting at 11.30am in the Guildhall to pray until 12.30pm with the civic party in attendance.

We will pray for the peace and security of our city, our nation and our world, and for the move of God in York to fulfil Lydia’s prophecy.

Come and join Churches Together and One Voice as we offer up significant prayers.

The Bible in Six Weeks

This is a very popular course of the York School of Theology in their Flat-pack series. Now for the first time it is being offered during the daytime. Many people know about Adam and Eve, Noah, Moses, David and Goliath, Daniel and those lions, Jesus’ death and resurrection, and Paul’s journeys, but how do they all fit together and make sense as a whole?

This overview of God’s amazing collection of books is taught by Derek Wooldridge.

  1. The life of Jesus – the Gospels
  2. The Acts of the Apostles and their Letters
  3. The Books of the Law: Genesis to Deuteronomy
  4. Under the Judges and the first kings: Joshua – 2 Samuel and the Wisdom Literature
  5. Kings and More Kings: 1 Kings – 2 Chronicles and the Prophets
  6. Exile and Return: Ezra – Esther and the Later Prophets

Jesus is doing wonderful things in His church!

As church leaders praying together over the past years, we are aware that God has done something special among us. We are grateful and constantly amazed that the Lord has held us together in prayer for so long. See the One Voice web site to find out more.

Now we hear of other groups of church leaders being inspired by what has been happening in York. Leaders in Harrogate are had their first prayer breakfast along the same lines as ours here (Tuesday 6th March 2007) at 7.45am. Before that, leaders in Hull started to come together in a similar way.

It seems these gatherings have sprung directly from hearing about all that is going on in York and as a result of the leaders prayer here – will you join us in praying for them?

Wow! Jesus is doing wonderful things in His church.

Historic Baptisms in York City Centre

Easter Sunday 2007 was an historic day in the centre of York.

The churches of York had completed 40 days of prayer and many came together for a celebration in the city centre. At the same time the ‘red carpet treatment’ was given to the general public. We invited people to walk on strips of red carpet and gave them a card explaining the simple truth of the gospel that God thought they were so special that Jesus made a way for them to walk to Him through His blood. From 12.30pm there was music and singing in St Sampson’s Square with the band from York City Church. There was face painting going on and an information desk. The stage had a huge banner behind it carrying the One Voice logo and web address. The PA was particularly good and everyone in the area could hear what was going on. Word had got around that Baptisms were going to be conducted, as people had travelled from towns all over Yorkshire, even from surrounding counties and at least one family came up for the day from London!

Archbishop John Sentamu agreed to baptise candidates from all the churches along with their own leader. More >
