Tow-bar Drivers Needed
Jul 14th
Yes it is that time of the year again. Next Friday, 20th July, we need help from drivers who have tow-bars on their cars.
The task is to move caravans from storage to the camp site at Fraisthorpe. We meet at the storage place at 10:30 AM and move as many as we can in the time. When we finish we go for a lunch at the fish and chip cafe.
The storage place is Catfoss Industrial Estate, Brandesburton. To see where that is go to this MAP.
Prayers for Peace on 7-7-7
Jul 7th
Today along with other believers in the UK, Christians gathered in town halls and civic centres to pray for peace. Here in York we had been invited by the Lord Mayor to meet in the Medieval York Guildhall. There we prayed for our city of York, for the nation and our world. The civic party were in attendance.
This was a One Voice event and many churches were represented.
The Spurriergate Centre led the prayers for the world. People were invited to place a small umbrella on a world map as they prayed to represent the covering of God’s care we were calling to God for.
I got a photo of the world map with some of the umbrellas just before it had been fully cleared away.
The Summer Soul team led the praying for the city of York. Hand shaped notes placed on the floor as we prayed for the city of York.
Umbrellas were used in another prayer station led by Sue Wallace of “Visions“. We were invited to thank God for the “umbrella” of His protection because the recent bombing attempts in London and Glasgow were unsuccessful. That got me thinking… Look for my thoughts on TheMorningFlight
More >Job Advert (voluntary) – York School of Theology
Jun 16th
York School of Theology (YST) offers a wide range of training to Christians of all churches in and around York.
After an exciting first year of operation YST is looking to grow and therefore seeks a person to commit themselves on a voluntary basis, to provide administrative support. The amount of time required is the equivalent of one or two days per week.
It is a role which can offer great satisfaction for service in a strategic area of Christian work.
For further details see the newssheet or contact us at the York Elim office.
Borrowing Money or Want to Save? York Credit Union
Jun 12th
If you are wanting to borrow for something special you may be tempted to accept the offer of easy loans from doorstep sales reps. DON’T!
Provident Personal Credit are often found offering their services in lower income areas and sell door to door. Borrow from them and you are bonkers! They charge interest at 177% interest.
That’s right 177%! It is something I think should be outlawed.
A far better option for those in York is to apply to the York Credit Union which works with Citizens Advice Bureau in York. They check that any borrowing applied for is affordable, but that should be welcomed because they believe in responsible lending. It costs £1 to join.
I met Mike Beckett of Citizens Advice and York Credit Union in the York Guildhall today at a Carers Day (part of a National Carers Week) I went away with a bundle of info.
York Credit Union is a great way to save too. You can start saving with a minimum payment of only £1. They even have a special Christmas Saver Account. By saving with them you are able to support the credit union’s work of protecting the vulnerable from being exploited and taken into unmanageable debt by unscrupulous lenders.
